Liebster Award

Thanks so much to Confessions of A Bookaholic for nominating me for the Liebster Award.

The Liebster Award is targeted towards bloggers with less than 200 followers, in order for us to learn about each other and our wonderful community. I have only just found out about this award but I think it’s a great way to get to know our fellow bloggers.

As part of the nomination, you are given 11 questions to answer. Here are my answers the questions I received.

1.) What is your favourite genre to read and why?
Fantasy, Sci-fi, Supernatural and the sort. I have a huge imagination. Every since I was little I used to imagine being on my own little adventures. One of my favourite cartoons as a child was Star Wars (but I didn’t watch the movies until recently – wasn’t a big movie fan). My dad was a huge Sci-Fi fan and so was his older sister and I think all of these things combined made me steer towards a love of books that steer away from reality.

2.) What series have you read that you wish the author would continue to write?
Wait for it… A Song of Ice and Fire. A Game of Thrones kept popping up everywhere I eventually started to read that and couldn’t stop, but I had to. The guy hasn’t finished the series and if you are familiar with the books and the author, George R R Martin, then I’m sure you know that he’s being a big whiner about not wanting to rush the books. I have huge admiration for the man but I don’t think he gives 2 hoots about his readers. Many times he has literally given the finger to fans who feel like he may never finish. Huge disappointment. I know the question asks “continue” but I feel like we may never get the last books that everyone is dying to read.

3.) As a reader, do you also like to write? If so, do you hope to have a published novel in the future?
I do like to write. I actually have ghost written a few blogs out there for someone else (you know who you are). I have a hard time keeping focused so I don’t know if I would do a whole novel, but I would consider children’s books. In high school I actually wrote and illustrated a story book about the weirdest dream I ever had but it was never published. I believe my mother may have it.

4.) Do you tend to buy most of your books or rent them from a library?
When I was growing up I used to borrow from the library. But now I own and love my kindle and it’s pretty much all I use. I would buy physical books if they were more accessible, but seeing as I live in a small developing country, the kindle is a much better option for me.

5.) What book have you read where you were easily able to relate to?
The closest I can come to relating to a book is having a similar fascination as a character in a book. In The Atlantis Trilogy Dr. Kate Warner has had a lifelong fascination with understanding how the human brain works. Now, I’m not a doctor but if I had been one, I would probably be a lot like her.

6.) Do you/can you read several books at once or do you tend to stick to one at a time?
Normally I read only one book at a time, but sometimes I do juggle when I am reading a book that’s boring or, that I want to last a long time, or when another long anticipated book comes out while I’m reading something else.

7.) What inspired you to begin blogging?
I started a book blog because I really wanted to join a book club but 1) many people I know are only into Romance and I hate romance, 2) we don’t really have book clubs where I live, 3) I tried joining book clubs on Goodreads but sometimes they just read too fast for me. Plus I like to write so I get to do both.

8.) Everyone says that you “can’t” but be honest, do you judge books by their covers?
I would say that I don’t really judge them by their front covers but their back covers that contain the synopsis for the story within. I also go and see how they are rated on different sites to help me decide if it kinda seems interesting but I have some concerns. If it is recommended to me because of what I like then I would probably read it.

9.) What is your favourite vacation spot?
That would have to be in Placencia, Belize. It’s a small village and everyone tells you good morning. It’s quiet by day, and everyone loves to party at night (no big clubs but nice restaurants and bars). I always tell people that time moves different in Placencia. If you can only go for 3 days, you’ll still feel like you had a week. Some times you’d walk around the village, do stuff and look up and only an hour has passed.

10.) Do you speak multiple languages? If so what languages.
I wish I could speak other languages. I do understand basic to intermediate Spanish (my grandfather was from Mexico) although I don’t really speak it. I would really like to learn French.

11.) If you had to live in a place that only experienced one season which would you pick?
Hmmm. I live in the tropics and my husband loves it. I’ve always wanted to live somewhere colder, but one season, hmmm, I don’t know anywhere that has one season. I will just pick one season I would like to live in all year round. That would probably be autumn. It’s getting cooler but not cold and it’s not hot either.

Here are my nominees. I must say that It was very hard to find 11 blogs with less than 200 followers specially because you may have followers on many different sites and a lot of people don’t show how many followers they have. However, this was very exciting and I have found a few more blogs to follow.
